Medford’s Community Preservation Act (CPA) was approved by voters in November 2015, enabling Medford to establish a Community Preservation Fund (CPF) to be used for open space protection, historic preservation, affordable housing and outdoor recreation purposes.

Cross Street Cemetery Restoration:
Cross Street Cemetery is Medford’s second oldest burial ground, established in 1816 and later incorporated into the landscape of Oak Grove Cemetery. In 1956, the cemetery was relocated during the construction of Interstate 93, and many of its historic gravestones were moved and reset within a fieldstone-walled enclosure. Today, the site preserves the memory of generations of Medford residents, including veterans and early community members. The Medford Historical Commission and the Cemetery Trustees are working together to document, assess, and conserve the historic monuments so that this important part of the city’s history remains visible and protected for future generations.

Thomas Brooks Park:
In 2019, the Medford Historical Commission was awarded a CPC grant for the development of a master plan for Thomas Brooks Park. This historic landscape is a passive recreation space and the Commission has been working to restore the landscape and bring much-needed amenities to this landmark. The project has its own dedicated page. News and updates can be found here:
